Fused Silica Powder
Changtong fused silica powder is produced from selected high-purity crystalline silica through high-temperature electric fusion at approximately 1800–2000°C. During the fusion process, the crystalline structure is transformed into amorphous silica, after which the material is processed and classified into different granular and powder grades.
With its low thermal expansion, good thermal stability and excellent thermal shock resistance, fused silica is widely used in investment casting, refractory materials, ceramics, foundry applications, epoxy molding compounds and other industrial systems requiring stable performance at elevated temperatures.
Available forms: fused silica powder, fused silica flour, fused silica sand and customized particle-size grades.
Key Properties of Fused Silica
- Low Thermal Expansion: Helps improve dimensional stability during heating and cooling cycles.
- Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance: Suitable for applications exposed to rapid temperature changes.
- Amorphous Silica Structure: Produced by high-temperature fusion of selected crystalline silica.
- Multiple Particle Sizes: Powder, mesh and granular grades are available for different processing requirements.
- Stable Industrial Performance: Suitable for precision casting, refractory, ceramic and resin-based applications.
- Customizable Specifications: Particle size and selected chemical specifications can be discussed according to customer requirements.

Fused Silica Applications
Fused silica is used in a variety of industrial applications where low thermal expansion, thermal stability and refractory performance are important.
- Investment Casting: Used in precision casting and refractory shell systems.
- Refractory Materials: Suitable for high-temperature refractory formulations and components.
- Ceramics: Used in technical ceramics and other silica-based ceramic systems.
- Foundry: Used where controlled thermal characteristics are required.
- Epoxy Molding Compounds: Used as a silica filler in selected resin and molding systems.
- Fusion-Bonded Epoxy: Suitable for selected coating and resin applications.

Why Fused Silica for Investment Casting?
Investment casting processes place demanding requirements on refractory materials. Dimensional stability during heating, resistance to thermal shock and controlled particle characteristics all influence shell performance and casting quality.
The low thermal expansion and thermal stability of fused silica make it suitable for precision investment casting applications. Different mesh and particle-size grades can be selected according to the customer's shell-building process and formulation requirements.
Customized Fused Silica Solutions
Not every customer requires the same fused silica specification. Changtong can discuss product selection according to particle size, chemical composition, application and processing requirements.
When requesting a quotation, we recommend providing:
- Required product form: powder, flour or sand
- Required mesh or particle size
- Target chemical specification
- Application or production process
- Estimated order quantity
- Packaging requirements
Packaging & Shipping
Standard fused silica packaging options include 25 kg bags and 1000 kg bulk bags. Customized packaging can also be discussed according to customer requirements.
- Standard bag: 25 kg/bag
- Bulk bag: 1000 kg/bag
- Container loading: approximately 20–25 MT per 20-foot container, depending on product and packaging configuration
